What Is Cap & Trade And Why Is It Bad For America?
What is Cap and Trade?
The cap and Trade bill aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 17% by 2020 and create some
green jobs by putting a limit (cap) on the amount of pollution that coal fired power plants and other industrial industries output. If they exceed the assigned caps they will pay additional taxes that are passed on to the consumer of the electricity and other industrial products.
How Much Will It Cost?
The Congressional Budget Office has estimated that it will cost $22 Billion by 2020 which is approximately $175 per American household, however, the actual cost will range from $175 per household to nearly $3000 depending on where you live. States with fewer coal fired power plants will pay less and states with more will pay more. The representation of $175 per household is an average if everyone paid the same.
Do We Need a Cap & Trade Bill?
TheThe latest attempt by the government to implement cap & trade in the United States is the EPA's attempt to regulate carbon dioxide emmissions that are released into the atmosphere. The government has not scientifically established that carbon dioxide is a pollutant as it occurs naturally in our enviornment. We drink carbon dioxide in our sodas, it causes our bread to rise, and it is one of the most abundantly found gases on our planet. We measure the same amount of carbon dioxide around the planet. Co2 produced in China will eventually wind up over the United States and Co2 produced in the United States will end up in Europe.
What Should We Do About Co2 Emmissions?
First, we need to determine if C02 is causing damage to our planet.
Second, if it is proven to be a pollutant, we need to work with other countries that produce Co2 emmissions and develop ways to reduce the effect of these emissions.
